The consortium for this project has been built based on an analysis of the core competences necessary to accomplish the more ambitious goal of integrating control communication and computer science together with in industrial automation from process control to manufacturing supervision.
The industrial partners were chosen among the world leaders in their domain to guarantee the project
an exploitation dimension otherwise impossible. SOFIDEL is 4th in Europe as a producer of tissue
papers. SIEMENS’ Automation and Drives division is undisputedly leader in Europe and worldwide
in networked automation. ELSAGDATAMAT represents Finmeccanica’s group branch dedicated to
transport, security, and automation, and has unique expertise in wireless mobile networking in industrial
and non-industrial systems.
The academic partners of the consortium bring together a well—balanced and complementary mixture
of competences that has a high potential for a successful cross—fertilization within the project.
All partners, except the end—user, are very experienced in collaborative research project and have
already cooperated in other EC—funded projects and national projects. The consortium represents a
well—balanced blend of scientists with backgrounds in complementary fields: computer engineering
(UCL, ULUND, UNITN, UNIPI), systems science and control engineering (ULUND, MIT, UNIPI).
Each partner is a leader in his specific field and is bringing in highly specialized research infrastructures
at his organization.
